Charlie

Charles “Chas” K. Groth, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 7, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Born April 20, 1924 in Braham, Minnesota. He married Nancy Dawson on September 29, 1956 and together enjoyed 55 years of marriage. Charlie worked in construction for Holmberg and Holm and then went on to work for WF and John Barnes as a machine builder until his retirement in 1986. He loved the challenge of hard work, whether it was building something, working on his farm or helping his daughters with their home and business projects.

2 Thessalonians 3:10, "That if any would not work, neither shall he eat."

Survived by wife of 55 years Nancy; daughters, Sherry Wilcop and Pamela Piper; grandson Matthew Broughton; brother, Warren; sister Winnie Johnson; many special in-laws, nieces and nephews throughout the U.S. and South America. Predeceased by parent, sisters; Virginia and Violet; sons-in-law, Mike Broughton, Toby Piper, and Howard Wilcop; brother-in-law, Curt Johnson and nephew Bruce Johnson.

A very special thank you to Sylvia Staley and the “Seniors on the Go” group at Northeast Christian Church. Also Northern Illinois Hospice and Grief Center for their loving care and prayers.

Funeral services at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 11, 2012 at Northeast Christian Church, 5651 E. Riverside Blvd., Loves Park, IL. Entombment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory, 4311 N. Mulford Rd., Rockford Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family.
